What is the project about?

“EMPATHY: Europe meets Young Patients” project organised a four-day seminar on 8-11 July 2013 in Brussels for young patients, European policy-makers, and stakeholder actors in the fields of health, education, social and youth policy.

The seminar will involve 30 young patient leaders, including the members of the EPF youth group, 15 stakeholder representatives, including senior patient-representatives and approximately 10 policy makers.

The project idea was identified by the EPF Youth Group during the 2011 annual meeting and was further developed by the EPF Secretariat in liaison with the various members of the Youth Group Group and in the vein of the EPF Youth Strategy.

Project Objectives

The ultimate objective of this project is to promote a more holistic approach to addressing young patients’ needs in EU-level decision-making processes.

Consortium

The project is led by EPF and will be implemented by a consortium of 9 patient organisations, all having nominated a member for the EPF youth group:

• Malta Health Network (MHN)
• National Patients' Organisation - Bulgaria (NPO)
• Verenigde Ouderen en PatientenOrganisaties (VSOP)

Impact on patient community

Through this project EPF would like to provide young patients with appropriate tools and avenues through which their specific needs and expectations towards EU policy makers and stakeholders can be put forward. Ultimately, this should lead to EU policies in the area of health, youth, education and employment that are more responsive to young patients’ needs.
