Informing and empowering patients through accessible and clear information on medicines

All patients deserve CARe - Clear, Accessible and Reliable information about medicines. Regardless of their condition, background or nationality, all patients have a fundamental right to patient-centred care.
In its latest paper, EPF highlights key recommendations to enhance patient information leaflets (PILs), successfully integrate electronic product information (ePI), and advance health literacy across the EU:
-
Enhancing PILs – A key information section can improve readability and help patients find essential details more easily.
-
Complementing with ePI – Digital formats should support, not replace, paper leaflets to ensure accessibility for all.
-
Promoting health literacy – A broader EU strategy is needed to empower patients, improve adherence, and strengthen trust in healthcare.
With ongoing EU regulatory discussions, including the revision of the EU pharmaceutical legislation and the Critical Medicines Act, EPF urges policymakers to prioritise patient needs and ensure that medicine information is clear, inclusive, and effective.
