13 Speakers, One Message: Make Patient Empowerment a Reality
At our high-level conference on patient empowerment in May 2015, speakers with different backgrounds, and experiences gathered and underlined their genuine commitment: to make patient empowerment a reality. The new video from our Patient Empowerment Campaign spotlights this.
Available on EPF’s YouTube channel, the new video compiles the best quotes from the Kick-Off Conference of our Patient Empowerment Campaign last May. In a room filled with experts from various backgrounds, stakeholders and policy-makers, the common take-away message at the end of the day was plain and simple: patient empowerment is crucial both for patient and healthcare systems.
Empowered patients can improve their own health quality and influence future healthcare delivery, emphasised the European Commissioner for Health, Vytenis Andriukaitis. EPF President, Anders Olauson stated “The time is right, to make patient empowerment known and understood in every part of Europe”. The discussion highlights are available here.
A lot more to come!
Achieving patient empowerment in concrete terms is collective work. We need the help of policy shapers and decision makers. That is why in March we will take the campaign to the Members of the European Parliament. An EPF delegation will be around the Parliament to meet with MEPs to introduce the ‘Patient Empowerment Charter’. As you will read below, the Charter is in development with our membership and will be officially presented later this year. We will ask MEPs for their support to promote the empowerment and meaningful involvement of patients by signing up to the Charter.
