Member consultation on discrimination in healthcare: your input needed

EPF is launching a consultation for its members on a draft position statement to define our perspective on discrimination in healthcare.

Why a position paper on discrimination in healthcare?

This position paper is a tool to implement EPF’s strategic goal 6: “To promote the development of EU and national policies that tackle discrimination faced by patients in health and social care as well as in domains like education and employment.” It is based on our past work in this area including the EMPATHIE seminar with the youth group.

The objectives with this paper are to:

• Raise awareness of discrimination that patients continue to face in the European Union and provide a picture of what type of discrimination they meet
• Build key recommendation for EU institutions to ensure they take concrete actions towards tackling discrimination in healthcare
• Ensure that the EU maintains the momentum after the high level conference “Health in Europe, making it fairer” and the session on discrimination in healthcare in European Health Forum Gastein 2013, and keeps the fight against discrimination as a priority on the health agenda during this new legislative period.
• Present EPF position to other non-governmental organisations in the field of discrimination to enable more cooperation in this area in the period 2014-2020.

How to respond to the consultation?

You can comment on all parts of the position paper. We have also included questions to members in green boxes were further input is strongly needed. Please feel free to reply to some or all of the questions. Your feedback to make this position paper more effective and examples from your own work are strongly valued.

After this first round of consultation, we will integrate your comments into a final draft that will be circulated for a final consultation.
