The European Patients' Academy (EUPATI)

The European Patients’ Academy (EUPATI) was established in 2012 as a pan-European project: a public-private partnership run by a multi-stakeholder consortium bringing together patients, pharmaceutical industry, academia, non-profit organisations, regulators and HTA bodies.

EUPATI was initially implemented as a flagship project of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), and was led by EPF. EUPATI has trained over 150 expert patients on medicines research & development – e.g. clinical trials, medicines regulations, health technology assessment. Additionally, EUPATI offers and maintains the Toolbox on Medicines R&D, and coordinates a network of over 20 EUPATI National Platforms.

Given its strong potential for sustainability, as of 2020, EUPATI will pursue its activities as an independent legal entity, with the continued support and leadership from EPF.

What does EUPATI do?

EUPATI focuses on education and training to increase patients' ability to understand and contribute to medicines research and development, and improve the availability of objective, reliable, patient-friendly information for the public.

EUPATI also provides training on patient engagement for all stakeholders, to ensure the acceleration of effective patient engagement in Europe and across the world.
