New Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) call – Patient Inspired Knowledge HUB

Just before Christmas IMI launched a new Call for project proposals (see document below).

Together with other partners, EPF will put in a project proposal. 

Background, conditions and objectives of the project

• See topic 6 of the call (document available below): ‘Knowledge Repository to enable patient focused medicines development’ (page 39 onwards). This is closely linked to the EUPATI project.
• The budget is EUR 13 million, over 3 years, and the deadline for expressions of interest is 23 March 2015.
• If successful the project would probably start in 2016.

• The topic responds to one of the sustainability questions around EUPATI, i.e. the need to facilitate patients’ involvement in medicines’ research and development by means of sharing of patient engagement information and concrete opportunities for such engagement.
• To that end this project will aim at setting up an online platform to capture and share current approaches, standards, regulatory provisions and best practices of patient involvement in medicines’ research and development.

It has been agreed that EPF and EURORDIS share the leadership of this project and many of the other partners engaged in EUPATI will also be involved.

Contribute with your expertise!

We are sharing this information with you to get feedback on your organisation’s potential role/involvement in this new proposal, either directly as a Consortium Partner, or indirectly, through EPF, if you see a particular activity where you would like to contribute your expertise. Please come back to us as soon as possible on this as we need to prepare the ‘expression of interest’ as swiftly as possible.

Synergies and differences with EUPATI

Please be aware that this new project would provide a knowledge platform for the continuity of EUPATI, however not course update and/or further educational content development, extension of countries and languages etc., which also sit at the very core of EUPATI’s sustainability strategy.

EUPATI will need to deal with all that separately, most likely outside IMI funding.

A preliminary discussion will take place at our board meeting at the end of this month on a possible governance and operational structure to enable this to happen. We will come back to you with the board’s recommendation in due course, for your consideration and approval. A decision on this should be made late spring this year to enable the preparatory work to take place.
