IOF Worldwide Conference
Kaisa Immonen-Charalambous, EPF Senior Policy Adviser, spoke at the IOF Worldwide Conference of Osteoporosis Patient Societies which took place in Helsinki on 31 May – 1 June 2013. The global conference was organised by theInternational Osteoporosis Foundation together with the Finnish Osteoporosis Association. This event is held every two years and is an important forum for the development of the global osteoporosis patient movement.
It is a unique opportunity for osteoporosis patient societies from around the world to plan strategies, network and hear about new ideas from each other. The skills learned at the conference assist the societies in their efforts to improve public awareness on osteoporosis, and lobby for more effective diagnosis, treatment and patient care in their country.
Kaisa gave a talk in a plenary session on Friday 31 May on “The power of patient societies in 2013”, focusing on EPF’s work at EU level and the Value+ philosophy and model of meaningful patient involvement. She also co-chaired a policy roundtable on 1 June, and participated in a workshop on health technology assessment.
